Hywood’s Pharmacy was established in 1954 to provide the residents of Joondanna and Mt Hawthorn with their pharmaceutical goods.

The original owners, Cyril and Keith Hywood, had a loyal following of customers from the surrounding suburbs of Leederville, North Perth, Osborne Park, Tuart Hill, Menora, Coolbinia, Mt Lawley, Yokine, Mt Hawthorn and Joondanna. Living close to the pharmacy in Mt Hawthorn and trading seven days a week meant the pharmacists and pharmacy were well known in the local area and often visited.

Over time, the range of goods and services provided by Hywood’s Pharmacy has expanded to keep pace with the changing health needs of its customers, but the pharmacists have always maintained a connection with traditional healthcare, service and advice.

Hywood’s Pharmacy is now owned by Wesley Williams, a pharmacist and member of the Pharmacy Guild of Australia and Pharmaceutical Society of Australia. Since taking over in 2005, Wesley has worked closely with doctors at the nearby surgeries of Dunedin St Medical Centre, Mt Hawthorn Medical Centre and View St Medical Centre to improve the supply of medications and increase the range of services available to customers.

The pharmacy remains on the original site at the corner of Green and Dunedin Streets, near the border of Joondanna and Mt Hawthorn. It continues to trade seven days a week.
